Background of the study
Climate-induced migration is an emerging phenomenon that has far-reaching implications on livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable regions such as Aba South Local Government Area. Changing climatic conditions, including increased frequency of extreme weather events, have forced communities to relocate in search of better living conditions (Nkemdilim, 2023). The loss of traditional livelihoods and disruption of social networks have compounded the economic challenges faced by these migrants (Uchechi, 2024). Research has shown that climate-induced migration can lead to resource conflicts, urban overcrowding, and social tension as communities adjust to new environments (Chidimma, 2025). In Aba South, the displacement of populations has not only affected individual livelihoods but also altered the local socio-economic landscape. This study examines how climate-induced migration influences livelihood strategies and community resilience, emphasizing the need for adaptive policies that support both migrants and host communities. By analyzing the interplay between migration and economic stability, the research provides insights into developing sustainable interventions that can mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on livelihoods (Ifunanya, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Climate-induced migration in Aba South has disrupted traditional livelihoods and strained local resources, leading to increased socio-economic instability. Displaced populations struggle to integrate into new environments, while host communities face challenges in resource allocation and social cohesion. The current policy framework does not adequately address these challenges, necessitating urgent research into adaptive strategies that support both migrants and host communities (Chimamanda, 2024).
